A Style Icon: Anna Karina (Alphaville)

Hello everyone! How are you today?

I thought I would do (yet another) style icon post today. I guess you could say I have been feeling especially inspired recently. One of my favorite films (of all time) is the 1965 film Alphaville directed by Jean-Luc Godard. It is absolutely gorgeous and interesting and essentially perfect. Every time I watch it, I am always reminded of how much I love Anna Karina. Not only is she a fantastic actress, but I feel drawn to every persona she plays in films. She is the epitome of an "it" girl.

All of the above are my four favorite photographs of her! They are all so absolutely gorgeous, and I can't help but feel incredibly inspired by her persona.

The first outfit is a more direct translation from Alphaville to real life; whereas, my second Karina-inspired outfit is much more adapted to what a modern, 60s outfit would look like with a pop of color. I love the interesting contrast between the B&W of the first and the largely-colorful second.

Style Icon: Nancy Sinatra

Since I just uploaded a video with an outfit of mine inspired by Nancy Sinatra, I thought I would do a style inspiration post! It seemed fitting. Nancy Sinatra has always been one of largest fashion inspirations, just like Francoise Hardy. Nancy was another "it" girl of the 60s. Her music is wonderful, and if you haven't heard it I suggest checking out Bang Bang (a cover of a Cher song), Summerwine and Jackson, both of which she did with Lee Hazlewood. Her music and style embody this dream essence of the 60s I try as hard as I can to capture in my outfits.

Her style is often accompanied by mod dresses. knee-high boots, and her voluminous hair.

This image (I apologize for the low resolution) is from the video to Sugar Town. It is by far my favorite Nancy Sinatra song, but it is also one of my favorite music videos of all time. (Even though the song is about LSD!)

Below I have created several outfits that I drew all inspiration from Nancy!

A Style Icon: Francoise Hardy

I can easily say that Francoise Hardy has been one of the biggest influences on my personal style out of all of the people I draw inspiration from. Her style is so effortlessly put together, and she is easily one of the quintessential "it-girls" of the 60s.

I can't get over how perfect her sweater/skirt/high-waist pant combinations work so beautifully. The combination of it all is so simple but yet so sophisticated. I'm using the term "sophisticated" loosely--it's not that necessarily modern and kind of up-tight sophisticated, but the "let me be your friend because you have your shit together" sophisticated.

I can't talk about just her style, though. Her music has this ability to make you feel something, despite the possible language barrier. I've taken only three years of French, so I barely understand the majority of the lyrics. Despite this, I still feel that raw emotion coming from her music. Whether it's an upbeat song or an emotional ballad, her music just gives you this fulfilled feeling of ~feelings~

I created a couple outfits on my Polyvore account that I feel embodies the style and feeling of Francoise's style and music. I'll leave you with these, and a picture from a couple of months ago of me pretending to be her. ;)
